Volunteer Clearances: Step by Step Guide
Safety is a top priority in our Children’s and Youth Ministries. We want every parent to feel confident and at ease when entrusting their child to our care. To support this, all volunteers are required to submit the necessary clearances in accordance with Pennsylvania’s child protection guidelines before serving with our children and youth.
How to Complete the Required Clearances

Step 1: Complete the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Clearance
Complete the PA State Police Criminal History Check (PATCH).
For volunteers, this clearance is free.

Step 2: Complete the PA Child Abuse History Clearance
Complete the Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Certification through the PA Child Welfare Portal.
You can complete this application online and receive your results electronically.

Step 3: Complete the FBI Clearance OR Disclosure Statement — See Below
An FBI background check is required if you have NOT lived in Pennsylvania for the entire previous 10 years and do not already have a qualifying DHS FBI clearance. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal History Background Check
If you have lived in PA for the entire previous 10 years, you generally do not need the FBI clearance, but you will need to complete the required volunteer disclosure statement. Disclosure Statement

Step 4: Submit All Three Documents Together
Please submit all clearances together to be filed by our office staff. Once reviewed, you will receive a confirmation that you approved to serve with our Children and Youth Ministries here at Brookfield Bible Church.
