First Steps Classes

Step 1 Class

Offered regularly throughout the year | 5 Week Class | Downstairs classroom

This is the first class in our four-step pathway to growing in Christ. This class is filled with great information about who we are and what we believe as a church - but that is not the most important part of this class. The most important part of this class is the commitment that those in the class make together at the end of the class. A commitment to God, a commitment to your church family, and a commitment to the mission.

This is a class for everyone (members of Brookfield and those who are not members yet). A the end of this 5-week class there will be an opportunity to join the church if that is something you desire and have not done yet.

Growing Healthy Disciples Institute

The Book of Colossians

Starting Sep. 18th, 9-10 am | Upstairs in the HUB classroom

Taught by: Gabe Ulrich, John Trayer & Cary Loyd

What we think about Jesus matters. Our perception of Him shapes us - what we say, how we treat others, and even what we think. If we paint Jesus any less than who He is as supreme over all creation and savior of the world, not only does our theology slip, but the working of our faith also suffers.

In this 8-session series, Louie Giglio will take us through the book of Colossians to help us form a complete picture of Jesus. What we believe about Him influences everything from our corporate worship to our relationships to our attitude toward sin. Now alive in Christ, we can live a life worthy of God instead of falling back into the ways of the world.

Each video will last about 14 minutes and the rest of the class will be large group and small group discussions.

Bible Studies

We Saved You a Seat

We Saved You a Seat

Wednesdays at 7 pm | Upstairs in the HUB classroom

Taught by: Lisa-Jo Baker

What: Women’s Bible Study

“How are you?”

“Fine.”

In today’s busy world, we’re wired to appear “fine”, warding off authenticity and shielding ourselves from judgement. We hide behind the hum of busyness to escape intimate friendships with the women God has placed in our lives.

But we do want a seat at the table. We yearn for authentic relationships and the opportunity to be the opposite of “fine” with people who cheer for us. But comparison, envy, and entitlement often stop us from pulling out a chair at that table. Friendship can be hard, making new friends event harder, and maintaining genuine friendships the hardest.

In this 7-session Bible study, Lisa-Jo Baker and friends from (in)courage explore our relationship with Jesus as the ultimate model for authentic friendship. Nothin shapes us like the impact of a friend - it’s how Jesus radically and intimately connects with us. So instead of chasing perfection, overcome your fear of being known and find courage to connect.

OPTIONAL - Study guides can be purchased on-line.

Gospel of John

The Gospel of John, Men’s Group

John 1, 2, and 3 by Toney Evans

Wednesdays at 7 pm | Basement classroom

Led by: Jim Scott

What: Men’s Bible Study

The fourth Gospel was written by John, who the Scriptures call “the beloved disciple.” His passionate love for the Savior shows up on every page of this book of the Bible. He had a close relationship with Jesus Christ, and he wanted his readers to become intimate with Jesus as well. To only focus on the coming joy of heaven would be to miss the joy of heaven on earth in a growing, living relationship with Christ today.

John shows that Jesus is the divine Messiah—God dwelling among us—who has a kingdom that is not of this world. Therefore, he records eight miracles that show that Jesus was no ordinary man. He was a man, but so much more. He was the divine Word who became flesh.

John also records seven “I am” statements of Jesus, showing Him to be the one who revealed Himself to Moses at the burning bush, but also, among other things, the Door, the Good Shepherd, and the Way, the Truth, and the Life. John wants us to understand who He is because believing in Him is the path to eternal life (John 20:31).

As we await that eternal life, John also wants us to experience the abundant life that Jesus brings today—right now (John 10:10); the fruitful, fulfilling, kingdom life that Jesus offers those who follow Him.

This will be an 8-week course led by Jim Scott.

Celebrate Recovery

Celebrate Recovery

Mondays at 7:00pm

Led by: Larry Felker, Jane Felker, and Cary Loyd

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered 12-step program that provides people the resources and relationships to help recover. It is a safe place where we gather with other believers who encourage one another and walk the recovery journey with us to overcome our habits, hurts, and hang ups which left unchecked can rob us of our joy. Addiction gets the most notoriety, but anger, depression, anxiety, damaged relationships, co-dependency, abuse, and self-esteem are a few of the many examples of people who have been restored through this ministry.

To learn how you can become involved, please contact Larry Felker, Jane Felker, or Cary Loyd.
